    Start with https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Create_A_Network

You’re trying to run before you walk. Start at the begining. CREATE a network. Does it work? Okay, we can go from there.

Also, define ‘not working.’ What happens? If we can’t see your site (and you didn’t give us a URL), we’re going to need you to be descriptive here ?? When you go to subdomain.yourdomain.com, what DO you see? Is there a 404? Is there an error? Is Google saying ‘No site!’

    You get the idea.

    Hi Ipstenu

OK, I’ve checked the link you gave me and I’ve done all of this and I have access to my Network Admin Dashboard and have access to my root domain https://www.syngestreet.com

    I have added two subdomains – secondary.syngestreet.com (ID=3) and test.syngestreet.com (ID=4)

I get a 404 error when trying to access BOTH subdomain

I tried installing the Domain Mapping Plugin and mapped 4 to test.syngestreet.com to see would that do anything but no joy at all.

    Regards
    C

In order for your multisite to work with subdomains your hosting account should be configured to work with wildcard subdomains. This is done in the virtual host file for the account. You probably don’t have access to it.

In any case you’d better contact your hosting provider for that.

You don’t need the domain mapping plugin to make your subdomains work. It’s useful for other things.

    Hope this helps.

Yes, I have access to the Simple DNS Zone Editor in cPanel and I have the following added

    *.syngestreet.com. A 199dot85dot212dot29

That’s fine, you’ll need that as well. But this is not what is meant by wildcard subdomains.

The wildcard A record is on DNS level, while wildcard subdomains are so to say on the server level. You don’t have access to that from the control panel of your hosting account, so you’ll have to contact the support team of your hosting provider. They’ll know what to do.

    Gotcha,

Added now to the DNS Zone Record. The Domain hosting is with a different crowd than the hosting of the website itself.

I suppose I’ll have to wait a fair few hours before I’ll possibly see the result.

Sorry, I misread your reply. I’ll contact the hosting company now
