How exactly can I change uploads directory to be outside wordpress?

    My WordPress is installed a few directory levels deep on my domain, so the standard location of uploads would be:
    mydomain.com/somethingorother/news/wp-content/uploads

    But I like the uploads to be located at the base:
    mydomain.com/uploads

    I can’t seem to get the paths right to write the uploads in a folder outside the wordpress structure.

    How exactly can I accomplish this?

    Although the installation procedure and testing should help.
    Here is normally required fields for your configuration:
    1st fields: uploads
    2nd fields: https://mydomain.com/uploads
