I am doing a series of blogs and find it easier to cut and paste from Word. However, when I do even though it looks the same when i paste it, it doens’t when I publish it. It all runs together with no paragraphs. Since some of these travel blogs are long, i need the seperations. Anybody help on how to make this happen or doesn’t wordpress support cut and paste of word. i even tried double spacing, both Times and Verdana and to no avail.

  • Stop using Word – it’s that simple.

    (and don’t yell!)

I wasn’t yelling and “stop using word” isn’t an answer or a solution. Does the system not support a cut and paste of word, and if not what is the alternative? writing the text directly into the blog? or does it support another word processing system?

No decent web application supports cut&paste from MS Word (or any other word processing thing).
Alternative: plain text editor – like NotePad and others listed here:

“stop using Word” is a very valid advice! And writing in all caps (as you did in the title of the topic) – means yelling on the internet. Just FYI

ok understood but i just tried to write directly into the post and it still comes out not having separate graphs. are you saying i can’t even write directly into the system (without cutting and pasting) and still can’t have separation? im confused now.

Best not to use word and use a text editor like moshu says.

If you already have a heap of stuff you want to put into a blog and its already in word you can copy and paste it into a text editor.

Then copy it from the text editor to wordpress and that will remove all of word’s crazy formating.

Well guys I hate to say it but you were both wrong. As it turns out WordPress does support Word. I did a cut and paste, published the blog, and it was exactly as it had been. Then I hit edit, dropped down about half way on the page and changed the text settings both to “default” and hit enter and guess what? the entire blog popped up just fine as i had written it and with paragraph separation. Problem solved. now i can delete the EditPlus program i installed which didn’t work either

actually, you’re the one thats wrong, and I dont hate to say it. If you look at your site, you can see the ill-effects of your pasting out of Word quite clearly. Take a look at your font sizes on each post — scroll your page once instead of mouthing off to people that bust their humps to help the likes of you.

Some people just need to learn the hard way, I guess.

The previous posts were done much earlier than the two which were done today and were more along the lines of experimental. The two most recent ones were done today with Word and Verdana which we like to use for all our newsletters, blogs and web posts.

Nobody was mouthing off to people who bust their humps, I was just stating a fact that unlike as i was told, WordPress does support Word. And the statement “Stop Using Word” when someone was seeking help, was sheer nonsense and i will say it here, uncalled for and rude. Certainly it was not helpful in the context of someone trying to find out how to do something.

Maybe someone should have the facts about what a system supports and what it doesn’t before moderating an answer. The fonts on the two latest blog posts are just fine and will continue to be in the future now that we have found a way to use it properly.

and whooami: i’ve been writing professionally probably longer than you’ve been around. although i will admit i don’t know your age but let’s say i’ve been a professional writer for 35 years and despite new technology which sometimes gets ahead of all of I try to stay on top of things. I’m sorry you felt offended but reading into something, something which wasn’t there is just your lack of judgement on the matter.

EDITED* Sorry about that TheTraveler, didn’t realize ya made two posts already.. =/

Lmao@whooami.. I was just going to say, DO NOT argue with the people here, about Word. ?? We have *all* seen how many threads come through this forum, about how Word screws up people’s blogs, because Word puts tons of added codes into their blog post’s, and screws up their theme’s as well. ??

I guess the *only* way for people to learn, is by trial and error..and by what whooami is saying, you’ve got “errors”, or display issues that is.. =) Rather then being “cocky” to those that are “wise”.. I’d suggest listening to what they have to say, before opening your mouth.. just my .02 cents.

Good luck with your wonderful Word copy/pasting..though.. =p

    It boils down to this:

you CAN copy and paste from MS Word, and (some of the time) it will show up on your site in an acceptable manner. Sometimes, however, it will not.

The additional formatting that results from using Word can do strange things to your overall layout and theme, and certainly affect the presentation of the given post in different browsers (e.g. firefox, opera, and so on). It will also break your XHTML validation.

I understand the convenience of it; it’s the medium I work in, and having to copy and paste things into Notepad/whatever before pasting into WP, and then formatting again, is a pain beyond belief. But the alternative for visitors to your site is ultimately worse.

Friends! The solution to pasting from
    Word is this fabulous plugin:

    https://www.ndsinternet.com/blog/archives/2006/08/wordpress-plain-text-paste-plugin

    Enjoy!

a note to the very useful plugin mentioned by floatingworld: when installing the plain text plugin two important points….
    1. make sure pathways in lines 30, 31, 33 of the nds-paste.php file are correct for your site.
    2. make sure to clear your cache.
