check box selection does not display in IE 9 and up

    I have a large form with a number of check boxes in a WordPress 3.7.1 site. When a check box is clicked, it does not show the check box as selected in Internet Explorer 9 or higher. I can set IE 9 to compatibility mode, the check box is shown, but this isn’t a reasonable solution for the website visitor. No problem with Firefox or Google Chrome.
