• Hello

    I installed version 4.3.3 of the plugin and enabled download tracking (by checking “Track outbound clicks & downloads” and specifying “Extensions of files to track as downloads:”), but document downloads are not showing up in Google Analytics.

    I am using WordPress version 3.7.1.

    I do see Yoast’s GA code in the head of the document.

    After turning on the Enable Debug Mode, I looked in the web inspector console and did not see any output when clicking on outbound links.

    Here’s a page with a downloadable document:
    https://www.pjdc.org/member-resources/resource-bank-items/?search=competence+evaluations&submit.x=-1240&submit.y=-273

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • I’m having the same issue. Looking at Google Analytics reports, it seems that the issue started for me when I updated the plugin on April 1, 2013. I will respond if I find a solution.

    @roble

    I have narrowed my issue down to only relative links. If I change the links on my site to include the http protocol as well as the domain, the tracking code is applied.

    Unfortunately, that is not a permanent solution, since I don’t want to use absolute links for my downloads, so I’ll have to figure out a solution for applying the tracking code to relative links.

    Hopefully that helps.

    Well, I did a little more reading, and it looks like relative URLs are actually bad practice. I was misinformed before, thinking that relative URLs were a good practice. Guess I’ll be changing my links. And I doubt Yoast has plans to update the plugin to resolve this.

    Hope that answers your questions @roble
