• Suddenly 5 WP sites show blank in a browser AND I can not log in to their Admin panel cause that shows up blank in a browser. Only way in is via cPanel.

But 2 other WP sites are working fine (they are using theme 2011). Others =no.

    Recently updated to WP 3.7.1

Can’t get a stitch of help out of Chicago’s WebhostingPad.com ‘s Tech Support — they keep referring me to here ’cause they say they aren’t code writers. So much for bargain webhosts.

Common error msg for the 5 problem sites is:
PHP Parse error:? syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/<username>/public_html/suddenly-frugal.com/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4080

I noticed when I copied to notepad the code for ‘functions.php’ from a problem site and then same file from a working site that file size for working sites was bigger.
I then experimented in cPanel copying / overwriting functions.php(working) into same file(notworking) and had no change.

Sure would appreciate some real help here.

    Thanks,
    Vance

  • Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and the wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

    Thanks.

In cPanel I deleted all files in each site’s PlugIns subdir because WebhostingPad.com’s tech supp said, at first that is, that all this problem was due to this plugin: TrueGoogle-404.
And when that did nothing they switched and said it was some other unknown plugin, so
off they went to PlugIn code heaven.

The only way in to each of these 5 problem sites is via cPanel. = I have never heard of nor used nor know how to use phpMyAdmin. What do you type into the browser window to get access to a site?

“re-uploading all files & folders” — what files & folders?

“from a fresh download of WordPress” — how do I do that via cPanel? or as you put it,
running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php — again, how do I use wp-admin/upgrade.php when all I have seen so far (not that it can’t be done) is that the only way in is via cPanel.

Thanks so far for your suggestions,
    Vance

Thanks I will give that a try when I am not so very, very, very exhausted over this whole thing from trying and failing all day.

So, esmi?Theme Diva & Forum Moderator,

Once again, how do I perform your kind suggestions when ” all as I described above?”

    Thanks,
    Vance

I have never heard of nor used nor know how to use phpMyAdmin

It is a database tool that you should be able to access via cPanel. If not, ask your hosts about it.

“from a fresh download of WordPress” — how do I do that via cPanel?

Yes – you could use cPanel’s File Manager.

    RE: phpMyAdmin
Once in cPanel, what do I do next to get to use phpMyAdmin?
    Step1:
    Step2:
    Step3:
    etc.

    RE: fresh WordPress
In cPanel, the host offers Softaculous, a way of doing updates of WP and there I can force a reload (I think).

    ANSWER:
NO, I can not force a fresh reload via Softaculous utility the host offers.

So, step by step, via cPanel, how can I call and force a refresh under the sub-directory for each troubled site?
    Step1:
    Step2:
    etc.

    Thanks.

would close this if there was a “Close” option.

    I only see “Resolved”

    but this is not resolved

so I guess the only choice for us is “Resolved”

I changed it to unresolved – you can do that as well.
