• As I relatively new user, I have what I hope is a simple question ??

I have set up a functioning site at photography.kbqvist.com (with WP in the photography folder of my server, seen from the root). I have acquired the additional domain name qvistphotography.com, which is set up to point at exactly the same folder as photography.kbqvist.com does.

So, I can use qvistphotography.com to access the site, but as soon I start clicking around, the address line changes to something photography.kbqvist.com-related.

What does it take to fix this, such that every post/page will look qvistphotography.com-related? Is it just a matter of changing the ‘wordpress address’ and/or the ‘site address’ in Settings/General?

Somehow I have a sense that I may be close to something that can go wrong; hence the question ??

  • See Changing_The_Site_URL for details of how to do this correctly.

    Thanks for the prompt reply!

I was actually aware of that article, but it wasn’t entirely clear how much of it is relevant for my problem. So let me rephrase the question:

Is it correct, that all I need to do is described in the following quote from the page your refer to:

On the Settings->General screen in a single site installation of WordPress, there are two fields named “WordPress address (URL)” and “Site address (URL)”. These are also known as the “Home” and “Site URL” settings. They are important settings, since they control where WordPress thinks your site is located. They control the display of the URL in the admin section of your page as well as the front end, and are used throughout the WordPress code.

The “Home” setting is the address you want people to type in their browser to reach your WordPress blog.
The “Site URL” setting is the address where your WordPress core files reside.
Note: Both settings should include the https:// part and should not have a slash “/” at the end.

That is, to put the new url into both boxes?

No. Please read the whole page.

As a word of caution. Before you make changes there please ensure you have access to the backend files. FTP access.
If something goes wrong when you modify these areas you will need access to your wp.config.php file to correct the situation.
This is one method of approach.

    Thank your both your comments.

After reading the article more carefully than I had done the first time, and having secured ftp-access, I decided to try out my own original suggestion (see my first question above), to simply change both the ‘wordpress address’ and/or the ‘site address’ in Settings/General.

As far as I can tell, it does exactly what I needed, as described in my original question.
