• Now this is a weird one: I’m on a free wifi network at a coffeeshop. I cannot log into wordpress. Whenever I go to mysite.com/wp-admin I get a dead page and an error saying “This webpage is not available”. Otherwise web surfing is normal.

What’s even more bizarre, is I can happily log into a different WP site. So… there must be some kind of weird security setting on my WP set up that’s preventing me getting to the admin page.

Any ideas what could possibly be causing this?

  • Have you checked with your hosting company? Is the second site on the same host?

It’s actually on the same host! Which makes this even weirder!

Have you tried accessing the site in question via another ISP (phone maybe?) just to be sure it’s the network?

Also, some free networks block various things (i.e. streaming video) …so maybe there?

I have an idea – it might be Wordfence (a security plugin). I can’t test it unfortunately, because my phone is on the same wifi (i’ve got data turned off as I’m out of the country as well.)…. god only knows what setting I turned on, but i’ll be Wordfence is the culprit.

Sounds likely – I guess there’s no way to change those or deactivate it until you get access to the site :(.
