    Hi,

I run a wordpress.com website primarily for my portfolio and I’m now looking to add an e-commerce page to sell 1 product (a calendar). I know that I will need to convert to www.ads-software.com to add-on a plugin, but am unsure of the best route to take in terms of the e-commerce:

Can I maintain my current theme and website (https://www.live432.com) and just add an e-commerce page/post or will my entire site have to be converted to a new theme that is set-up for e-commerce?

Since I’m only selling 1 product, would it be easier to buy a domain (for example sillycalendar.com), host it through www.ads-software.com, and then upload a 1 page e-commerce plugin (something like this: https://www.slapchop.com)?

And lastly, would a specific e-commerce plugin website (Woocommerce, WP e-commerce, Jigoshop etc) be best for the different options listed above?

    Thanks for the help.

    -Phil

  • www.ads-software.com does not host any sites, so that’s not an option.

You could set up a self-hosted site for just the ecommerce portion and link to that site from your WordPress.COM site. But that means you’ll have two separate sites to maintain – which may not be ideal.

If you want to move your entire site to self-hosted, see:

You should be able to use Origin theme with an ecommerce plugin.

As to the ecommerce, with just one product, you may want to look for a very simple plugin – maybe one of these:

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wordpress-simple-paypal-shopping-cart/

There are quite a few other options, so look around the plugins page.

Awesome – thank you for the help and clarification. I know I’m veering into a different forum topic so this will be my last q on the matter:

If I’m understanding correctly I would need to transfer the live432.com registrar to GoDaddy for example, set up self hosting on GoDaddy, have the live432.com site up and running, then move my live432.wordpress.com to www.ads-software.com through export/import, connect live432.com to www.ads-software.com, and finally install the e-commerce plugin?

You don’t have to move the domain registration – you can change the nameservers to your new host on your WP.COM domain management section.

But the rest is correct, yes. Though you can typically use a temporary domain name on a new host for a while to get the new site going before you import your content and switch over the nameservers – that minimizes your “down” time.

BTW, we can’t get into discussions of hosting here but you may want to do a forum search for that one before settling on a host. See also: https://www.ads-software.com/hosting/
