New Post abstracts on Home Page

Hi Folks, I’ve just started a new Blog -sorry ??
Im using the Static Home Page plugin but would like to have about 5 new Posts (their abstracts – about 50-100 chrs) appear beneath the Home page stuff.
I guess that I need to use The Loop somehow – but does anyone know if this still workes when using staic Home page?
Im also still green on how that damn Loop work ??
Am I better off modifying the category “Home Page” and simply placing the abstracted posts on that?
Oh – and how do I get listing of abstracted posts ??
