Hi I am trying to get this up and running but just seem to get three dashes appearing instead of links.
I am not at all techy and am probably missing something really obvious, so I apologise for that, but could you give me a step by step to sort out the issue please?
    Many thanks.

    Hi,

You’re probably getting ‘-‘s because the plugin has no data to populate the link with.

    There are two options:

    1. Manually tell the plugin about the link you are trying to create by putting the info about the product in the shortcode, e.g.

    [amazon asin=0123456789&title=Product Title&artist=Product Maker&price=$2.99]

Probably worth trying this just to make sure the plugin is working okay.

    2. Get the plugin to retrieve the data automatically from Amazon when the link is created.

To do this you need to register with the Amazon Web Service (Advertising API). At the end of this process you will have two access keys which you put in the Amazon Link settings page. More details on how to do this are here: https://www.houseindorset.co.uk/plugins/amazon-link/getting-started/

Once you have done that turn on ‘Live Data’ and the plugin will get all the data needed to populate your template.

If you have a lot of Amazon Links, you probably want to enable the ‘Amazon Data Cache’ so that it does not have to get the data from Amazon every time someone visits your pages.

    Hope this helps!

Paul, thanks for your prompt response.
I’m afraid I’d already set up AWS API and added the keys.

Perhaps the issue is something else? Here’s a bit more info about what I’m getting.

When I look at the Manage Amazon Link Template Setup Page there is a little box in the bottom left of each option that is displaying a blue question mark. I am assuming that perhaps a preview should be showing there?

In Edit a Post If I try a search I get a drop down of ten blank options each one also showing an empty square with a little blue question mark in it.

    Any other ideas please?

    Hmmm,

Very odd, sounds like the actual search is working, but when it tries to get the product data it is failing.

On the Template Page, yes there should be a preview of each of the templates just below the options.

Could be some sort of clash with another plugin you have installed? Have you tried disabling them to see if that makes any difference?

I assume your default locale is the US?
Is it possible you could post a link to your site/page that has an Amazon Link inserted into it?

Have to admit I’m a bit stumped!

    Hi,

Found your site, default locale UK, should be fine.

Probably unrelated, but on your page ‘make-fantastic-craft-kits-kids’, the Amazon links don’t look right, could just be a cut and paste error though?

    Hi,

Got something for you to try, can you download and install the Beta version of the plugin from:

    https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/amazon-link.3.1.1.zip

I don’t think your version of PHP supports named subpatterns, so I’ve updated this version not to use them.

Please let me know if it makes any difference and I’ll do some more testing and make it the official version.

    Cheers,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,
Thanks for trying to help. The Amazon links I have in the craft kit post were manually added individually straight from the relevant Amazon sites.

I’d love to try the new version you suggest installing but I am a complete twit and can’t work out how to upload it without being able to use the automatic uploader option. ( I know I am a complete techy failure, sorry!)

I have uploaded to my computer and then went to my site’s upload plugin from computer option but I don’t seem to be able to upload the whole folder in one go. When I choose the folder to upload it opens it and I only seem to have the option to click on one element of it at a time. Does that make sense?

I need an idiots guide I’m afraid!

I really appreciate the time you’ve put into this. Thanks so much.

    Scrap all that Paul,
I’ve just worked it out and it’s doing it now. I’ll have a fiddle with it once it’s installed and let you know how it goes. Fingers crossed. ??

Paul you are a blooming genius!! Thanks so much for taking the time to help me with this. I’ve had a quick play and it all seems to working fine now, looks great and is easy to use which for a technical dunce like me is fab!

    Thanks Again. ??
