Installed in sub directory. I’m trying to set it as domain.com/wordpress is the real URL but domain.com gets them there. This explains how. I edited Settings/general to remove /wordpress. I then went to copy .htaccess and index.php to the root but I’m not in a Windows environment. My ftp program in iPad doesn’t have Copy.

So, I edited Settings/general again. But if I put back /wordpress in both places, I get

    Not Found

The requested URL /wp-login.php was not found on this server.

I edited it back the way it was but I get the 500 error. How do I get back to the original settings and not have a broken site? Tomorrow I will copy and edit again but for now I just need my site back. I can’t login. Do I just put wp-login.php in the root to login?
