Page excerpts not returned in json result

I’m querying a page and it’s children. All the child pages have a manual excerpt but when I query like this
https://localhost/wordpress/api/get_page/?slug=about&children=1The child pages excerpt value is just a truncated version of the content field, not the manual excerpt I created.
