picture tag count is wrong – way too high

If I use a tag once, the tag count shows up as 1. If I then delete the image that used the tag, then add it back in with the same tag, the count shows up as 2. I had to reinstall whole galleries multiple times so now the count for almost all tags is way too high.
I’m thinking of removing the mouseover message that shows the count because it makes it look like images are missing.
