I am having trouble with comments. At this point, I can only pinpoint the problem on one particular post but readers have indicated they’ve had problems in the past.

The problem post is this one:
    https://www.renodiscontent.com/2006/08/24/whittemore%e2%80%99s-lazy-8-casino-profits-and-a-baseball-future/

I’ve tried deleting the post and recreating it and the problem still exists.

The error in Firefox is: “the page isnt redirecting properly. Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.” and indicates that cookies could be the problem. In IE, it just hangs.

Help–Ive been reading through the support pages but there are A LOT on comments and I havent found this issue so far. Thanks!

  • Did you manually edit the post slug? It seems so – because WP won’t let the apostrophe to be there. Try to delete the apostrophe in the slug and see if it works.

I did not manually edit the slug.

You said delete the “apostrophe” singular, rather than plural. Which one should I delete or should I delete all the apostrophes? Thanks–sorry so dense.

I was referring to the post you linked above, which has an apostrophe in its title AND its slug.
Normally, WP should leave it in the title but eliminate it from the slug. It seems something is not working properly in your WP install, or the “sanitization” function has been disabled.
Any text formatting, editing plugins active?

Okay, what I did now was delete the post and recreate it so that there was no apostrophe in the title or slug. But still not able to post a comment to this post. I have not added any new plugins for a long time. I have been using Autometa and Askimet, Referrer Bouncer, Subscribe Me, WP Flickr Post bar, and Shortstat for months. I just deactivated Referrer Bouncer, Subscribe Me, and Flickr Post Bar.

Now, I am getting reports from other people about not being able to comment on other posts that already have comments. I clicked on one of the posts they mentioned to test it and got a blank page–no post at all….looks like something big might be wrong with my site that the comments problem was a first symptom of…yikes. Any ideas?

If you disable/remove plugins… you should also remove the reference to them from your template files.
In the “red” sidebar you have this:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: the_subscribe_links() in /home/.oliver/myrnatheminx/renodiscontent.com/wp-content/themes/punk/index.php on line 130

Okay, that was a mistake, I activated the subscribe me plugin again and content appears to be back. Any more ideas on the comment problem? I just had a user email to say that they cannot comment on three different posts using IE or firefox–some can and some can’t–not too much logic to it. And that single post (above) still will not accept comments from anyone:

I really appreciate the time you are taking to help.

Just posted a test comment – it worked.

    Is your theme in frames?
Also, there are quite a lot of errors, so I don’t know where to look:

I know, I feel bad about that….looking for a partner who understands xhtml better than I do to get things under control. There actually used to be more if you can believe it. Thanks anyway, I will keep gathering info from people on the intermittent trouble they are having and see what I can figure out. Thanks so much for the time…..
