Had zero issues with WP over the past 6 months until I tried to install 3.8. Would not automatically update. Plugin (Jetpack) would also not update. Tried disabling the other plug-in (Akismet), etc. No go. Finally updated manually.

Still could not update Jetpack, so deleted it. Cannot re-install new version. Install hangs with the message: “Downloading install package from https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/jetpack.2.7.zip…”

Any simple instructions on how to fix this. I am not a coder or expert, just trying to run one small blog. I liked the easy one-click update, but now does not work. Host is BlueHost, who recently updated to Php 5.4.

    Thanks.

  • Would not automatically update.

So was your upgrade to 3.8 successful or not?

I have the same issue. Can’t do the update through the dashboard “Update now” the notification hasn’t appeared. I have been waiting to update manually until I find out why the notification isn’t showing up. Any ideas?

The automatic update from the Dashboard failed repeatedly, so I tried a manual update of 3.8 using FTP and cpanel from the BlueHost site, which appears to be successful. However, the updates/re-installs of the plug-ins from the dashboard seem to have the same problem. I have not tried manual updates of the plugins, because I would prefer to have everything working via the dashboard, and not have to manually update everything in the future via FTP and the BlueHost back-end, which is very cumbersome.

Problem seems to have resolved itself. Logged back into my blog as admin after 24 hours and was able to download and install Jetpack automatically.

Can’t explain it, but there it is.

I have also a problem. Same problem I mean. Yesterday logged in and everything was just fine, but was a bit tired so left the update for today. I now cant find the update tab, also have lost the plugin tab, cant see the network admin tab … MAN! Oh yes, and my admin username was reset to ADMIN, but the password remains. Strange. I have searched in the Cpanel for recent visitors, only have seen that someone is trying badly to inject javascript. Nice, isn’t it? Also my plugin for security is gone. Someone have an idea how to solve this issue?

@shaddyx – this thread is marked resolved. Please post a new one so someone can help you.
