Problems with a caption/title

I need to have the title of each image underneath the slideshow. Following some advice on the plugin website I’ve added a line to the meteor-slideshow.php file and then changed it slightly as the text was half over the image and half under it. So the line I’ve got that works is
<p style=”display:inline-block;”><?php the_title(); ?></p>

However, it only works with a single line of text in the title … if there’s any more then it all overlaps so it’s unreadable.And as soon as I add a second image the title disappears completely!

Please advise!! I’d really like to get a caption/title working here.
