I have about ten WP sites that I am hosting on 1and1.com. In the last hour or so, suddenly I am unable to access the dashboards for any of them. Going to /wp-admin will give me a blank page and wp-login gives me an error/redirect. In both cases it redirects me to localhost 127.0.0.1. I have called my host and they say they are not doing any blocking of wp-login or wp-admin. I have tried checking the wp-options in myPHPadmin to make sure the error wasn’t there, and it isn’t. I have tried renaming the plugins folder in a couple different websites to disable all of them and see if a plugin was causing the problem (even though all of them were working just fine not two hours ago, and haven’t been updated since). That had no effect.

I did install MAMP yesterday and installed WP in it, but have since uninstalled it thinking that maybe this somehow had something to do with the problem. That also had no effect. I should add I did not even develop any of these sites locally and have not had this problem before… some of them have been up for years.

Did you change the hosts file of your mac when you installed MAMP? Does this problem occur if you access the sites from a different computer or a mobile device?

Are these sites on separate 1&1 hosting accounts or are they all on a single hosting account?

The issue as described sounds like the redirect occurs when trying to access the login page, so you cannot even attempt to log in. Is this correct?

Please post the URLs of some of the affected sites.

    hello,
same issues here, 1and1.es as hosting & domain provider:
    institutoact.es/portales/wp-admin – 1and1 https://institutoact.es
    articulosregalospromocionales.com/wp-admin – 1and1 – multisite
    perrosrefugioadopcion.es/wp-admin – 1and1
    interiotipo.es/wp-admin – 1and1

    Thank you for your comments.

This seems to confirm that the problem is with the 1&1 hosting. You need to contact the 1&1 support team.

thank you for your answer. I opened a ticket to Support Team.

The problem seems to have “fixed” itself over night. This tells me that 1and1.com is probably at fault, because I did nothing (was asleep, in fact). It makes me mad, because I called them TWICE to ask if it was on their end and they treated me as if I was stupid for asking. I will mark this as resolved. Thank you for your assistance.

ok. Once sent the ticket, the sites now appears fixed. Solved!.

Same issue here today. Defo a 1and1 issue, though yet to hear back from them. Will update if I get a resolution.

When I called 1 and 1 the next day, they ended up telling me that it WAS their fault, but a week later they have still not offered me any explanation, except to say that it was done by their Abuse department because of some vague reason they never fully explained. I have actually LEFT 1and1.com since then and taken my business elsewhere, and I would strongly encourage anyone who asked me to do the same. This is hands down the worst customer service I have ever encountered. I’ve heard many others say the same. You can’t shut down a dozen websites arbitrarily and offer no explanation. You just can’t. It’s so incredibly unprofessional I don’t even know where to start.

    Thanks for the update MBWD.

FWIW, I can count on one hand the minor issues I have had with 1and1 in the last 5 years of service with 0 serious issues. I have probably a dozen sites with them.

That being said, due to the continued, reliable service I have received, I clearly haven’t had to deal with their customer service extensively or for anything serious.

Will update as I find out more.

This was also my first serious issue with them, but it’s bad enough that it, compounded with horror stories I’ve heard from other web developers, has convinced me it’s time to move on. To be clear, the tech support I’ve received from the Filipino staff has always been great. I like talking to them. It’s the North American end of things that seems to be seriously lacking in customer service skills. No one has even tried to explain what has happened or apologized for it.

I’m having the same problem with all of my sites right now. All wordpress hosted with 1and1. Can’t access any of the login screens.

@faxon22, if this is the same issue you need to contact 1&1 about this

Yes I’ve contacted them thanks. Will update if I get an explanation

Via Twitter, “We are aware of customers having issues at the moment. We will provide an update as soon as it becomes available. ^BR”

    Acknowledgement at least.

faxon22 / eminentstyle: Thanks for posting. I too and a 1&1 customer, experiencing the same issue. I’ve also logged a support ticket.
