Adding OpenGraph Images drastically slows page loading

Adding OpenGraph images to a post using this plugin results in excessively slow loading when the post is viewed on the blog. Sometimes it will exceed the PHP execution limit. Haven’t seen a PHP error/warning for it yet though, it just runs very slow.

This is on WordPress 3.8, using the new Twenty Fourteen theme. Been using this plugin for a while, and didn’t notice this issue until a switch to WP 3.8.
