I’ve just set up Mailchimp for WP, using the widget and a simple form (email, firstname, lastname) created in the form settings page. The first time the form is submitted, it returns a blank error (displayed as a red box with no content) and the fields are reset. If you then submit the form again with the same values, it works. If you load the page afresh, the same sequence happens – i.e. fails first time, works second time. Any ideas? The url with the widget in the sidebar is: https://www.louisparsons.com/visionscaping/

    Thanks

    Hi there,

In which browser is this happening?

It seems to be working for me here. Tried a few different combinations: error messages (like invalid email) show up fine and subscribing as well.

Not sure what could be causing this actually.

In Chrome (Version 31.0.1650.63 on Ubuntu Linux 13.10 64bit).

I just tried logging out of WordPress Admin and it works fine. Log back in and it breaks again.

So from my point of view, it is fine as no one will be signing up to the mailing list if they are logged in to admin. You may wish to investigate further though, as other people will probably want to test their form whilst still logged in to admin. It could be some odd combo of plugins and theme code of course. I didn’t build this site, I’m just updating it, and it is a bit of a mish-mash!

For reference, this is on WP 3.8, has a theme based on Flipbook and has Contact From 7, Easy Post Types, Really Simple Captcha, Scissors Continued, Shadowbox JS and Simple Image Sizes plugins, in addition to MailChimp for WordPress Lite.

Thanks for an excellent plugin and very speedy support response.

    Hi there,

That’s really weird but at least that makes it a little less trivial. I can’t seem to replicate it yet but will test further with the details you provided – thanks!

You’re running no cache plugin or anything cache related?

Thanks for the detailed bug description, eager to fix!

    Nope, no caching at all.

    Hi Danny,

I have also encountered this error and can reproduce the issue each time, as explained by spikyit above. You have to be logged into the wordpress admin to reproduce this. When submitting the form the first time with valid details nothing seems to happen. Doing it the second works and the success message is displayed.

My website link with your form is here

    https://www.hanmigallery.co.uk/contact/mailing-list-1/

There are three sub-issues I have noticed after submitting the form for the first time:

    1. Firstly the in the address bar the ‘www’ is stripped from the url
    2. The custom font ‘OpensansRegular’ that I’m using on the main/sub-menus on the left is removed and changes to the fallback ‘Arial’
    3. Lastly in the source I can see the following markup:

    <div class=”mc4wp-alert mc4wp-error”></div>

It looks like an error occurs but there is no error text.

The first 2 issues occur whether your logged in or out of admin. The third thing occurs only when your logged in. Issue 1, causes issue 2 because it breaks path to my custom fonts.

My questions are why does the ‘www’ get stripped from the url and can this be changed since it breaks my fonts. Also will there be a fix so you can subscribe first time whilst your logged into the wordpress admin?

    hope you can help

    Hey there,

Could either one of you create me a temporary admin account so I can reproduce the issue?

Great catch about the missing www from the form action, it could very well have something to do with the issue here. It also explains why I haven’t been able to reproduce the issue so far. I’ll have a look at reproducing it with this new info but a temp admin account to take a look would be really helpful. ??

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I have created a temporary account, do you have an email or perhaps some other means I can send you the credentials? I would prefer not to post them on here for security purposes.

    thanks

    Hi MacKenzy,

Yes, you can email them to hi@dannyvank…..com (my full last name). Wouldn’t want you to post them here out in the open, no. ??

    Thanks!

Great Thanks! Just emailed them to you.

Got it – fixed this in version 1.5.1!

Fantastic, I updated the plugin and now works perfectly!

    Many Thanks
