I have updated to 3.8 and now all plugins have disappeared

    I have updated to version 3.8 and now all plugins have disappeared and no plugins will install now. Message come up saying cannot create a directory, etc. I have tried using a different theme, still the same problem, I am all at a loss, any ideas please?

    try updating manually with plugins off and with the default theme. Read the Manual Update directions first!
    – BTW, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case.
