• I have several hundred or so images in my media library. I would appreciate everyone’s opinion. In my website development I will be using numerous sliders (full width and widget areas), galleries and on and on. I believe that most full width sliders require a full 900px x 400px original so it fits the slider. I purchase a lot of photos on fotolia etc… They have numerous image sizes. Is it best to download the closest to 900 x 400? If I did, I would have that resolution for sliders but would have others created in media library. I also have from code canyon the image size manager. Image size and resolution has always given me issues. Thanking you in advance. If there is a tutorial please give url.

  • Hey Mark,

one thing to note is that when you upload an image to the media library WordPress generates 3 image sizes that you can use in anyway you see fit:

    Thumbnail: 150 x 150
    Medium: 300 x 300
    Large: 1024 x 1024

You can also go in and define your own personal image sizes for those special times when you need certain image sizes.

You can also set the image to hard crop mode which will crop the image to the specified size.

Hopefully this is some valuable information in helping you choose the best image size.

Thank you. Going to my main question; better to download a larger image?

So for resolution issues what px size do people download from commercial sites? IMO, maybe i am wrong, if you download a small tiny size and expect wp to stretch it, could lose resolution. That is the issue. Best overall size to buy on commercial sites. Thank you for your input.
