• having just updated to 3.8 as soon as I try to edit anywhere on the product page, it greys out and has a timer bar in the centre of the page.

Can I roll back to the previous version as I need to urgently get this working?

don’t seem to be able to edit anything actually…nightmare

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

thank you so much Esmi. I haven’t tried anything yet as I didn’t build it. it was built by web developers on the premise that wordpress was easy for me to maintain. I have had a great deal of trouble with the site and am therefore nervous about deactivating/reactivating plugins particularly as it is a live site.

Does deactivating/reactivating the plugins literally mean turning them on/off? Or could there be further implications by deactivating? I don’t want to make a bad situation worse.

A thought: is there a particular plugin that is causing the grey screen and not allowing editing/adding to site?

There is no magic bullet in these situations. The steps outlined above are the start of basic troubleshooting – a process of elimination deliberately designed to locate the root cause as quickly as possible by first removing the most obvious and common culprits via a series of (often) temporary steps.

Your theme & plugin settings are saved in your database and should be retained for future use.
