Runs without API key

I clicked Start Optimizing on the upload.php?page=ewww-image-optimizer-bulk and the plugin started running (filenames are displayed. I have not purchased an API key.
Should there be a check for the API key before the plugin runs?https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/ewww-image-optimizer-cloud/
