I received a comment asking “to speak with me” and to contact the commenter at “the email address I supplied above”.
The only identifier posted on the comment was a web page. Is there a way for me to see what email address the poster used when posting?
I don’t THINK this is spamming, but more likely a legitimate request since I’m familiar with the web site listed.
    Thanks.

  • If the visitor left a comment and didn’t provide a valid or correct email address then I believe WordPress can’t tell you that.

You may be right, but in the “leave a reply” form there are 3 boxes to fill out: (“WP 2.0.4 Default”)
    1) Name (required)
    2) Mail (won’t be published – REQUIRED)
    3) Website

Would this form check for valid email address, re: format or not? Would it deny a comment from someone who didn’t fill out the box?

Would the information be available somewhere I might find it?

It’s checks for a valid structured email address, not for an existing one.

Under Dashboard -> Options -> (I think it’s) Discussion, there’s an option to require those fields to be filled out. Depending on the theme, it may or may not remove them if they’re not required. (Most leave them in there even if they’re not required)

Take a look at Dashboard -> Manage -> Comments. All of the information should be there. It not, it’s also stored in your wp_comments table within your database.

    Hope this helps,

    Thanks drmike,

The info is in the Dashboard > Manage > Comments as you suggested.
