How to subscribe to .org site via the .com mechanics?

    We have a self-hosted blog. When you comment on a post, there is an option to have an email sent to you every time a blog entry is posted (as well as an option to see comments when others comment). This seems to be through WordPress.com. I would like to know how this is achieved without making a comment so that I could encourage folks to follow the blog. I’d like to use this rather then employing a third party plug-in, RSS, or anything else.

    Does anyone know? I see that I can go to subscribe.wordpress.com to update my subscripitons. Is there a way non-subscribers can sign up there?

    Try installing the Jetpack plugin.

    Thanks very much. I did have it installed but I didn’t have the functionality added to a widget. Once I did that, it was pretty much what I was looking for. Thanks very much for answering.
