• Help?

I was using WP with Expositio theme installed and uploading content directly through the site, no FTP access. I purchased the domain stefanieallen.com through WP and have since needed to change it to stefanie-rimhoff.com (purchased separately through GoDaddy), and of course I did it completely wrong. On the dashboard I manually typed in the new site address and it saved. Now I cannot even log in or figure out how to redirect the url.

I’m not web savvy, can an Admin help me?

  • Does your host provide a tool for managing databases? PHPMyAdmin is a commonly used one. You can use this tool to view your WordPress database. If you do have this access, locate your wp-options table in your database and change the “site_url” and “home” options to reflect the true URL of your site. I do not have a host, I previously bought just a domain through WP, and then my updated one through GoDaddy. Nowhere is my site linked to a host or uploaded manually… it is simply login on the WP site with an imported theme.

So let me ask it this way: which company is running the server that runs your WordPress installation? Do they provide tools for you to interact with the database of your site?

To fix your problem, you will either need access to the database or filesystem access to the server directory that has your website files.

Godaddy is who you need to contact they will be able to switch it back it happened to me before. As long as you supply them with as much detail as you can as to what you did it should be easy to fix.

bemdesign: I was working straight from WordPress as a blog, it was not hosted outside by anyone like GoDaddy. I accidentally plugged in a new directory URL through the dashboard and then it became redirected to a url I don’t even own.

I’ve decided to abandon it — doesn’t seem like there’s a way to get it back. Starting from scratch and downloading WP the real way through FTP hosting.

Thank you all for the help!
