Complete Walkthrough Tutorial Question

I am trying to work my way through the tutorial on adding “styles”. Specifically, I am looking at the page called “creating-custom-event-search-attributes”, and I just don’t get it. What are “custom event search attributes” and what do they have to do with “styles”.
Maybe I am confused by the word “styles”. The following paragraph is quoted from the tutorial.
“In this sample project, we are going to add a new plugin called “Styles”, which will allow users to assign certain styles to an Event via a drop-down menu. This functionality effectively gives you the same as event categories, but serves as a great way to show how easy it is to connect to all aspects of this plugin.”
When I read the first sentence I get the impression that this is talking about CSS styling. But the second sentence equates styles with categories. So now I am wondering if “style” is like “formal” -vs- “casual”, or something.
Bottom line, I have two questions:
– What does “styles” mean in this context?
– What does “search attributes” mean?Thanks!
