adding author name to blog post in template

Are you using the tag within the loop??
And/or have you tried this:

@in10se – I am using it within the loop. I’m using next to a date tag and a category tag, which work just fine. I tried <?php $author = get_the_author(); ?> But still doesn’t work ??

Here’s the site.

You’ll see “BY” at the top under the date from this tag:

<div class="single-author">By <?php $author = get_the_author(); ?></div>

you are assiging the value to the variable $author, but the echo is missing in the code.

example:

<?php $author = get_the_author(); echo $author; ?>

I put in the echo as you recommended, but got the same result ??
