Hi i need to be able to sell zip folders on my wordpress website, is there a plugin that can handle large downloads? If not what other options are there for selling large digital files through wordpress?

All the files will be below 150mb.

P.s the zip folders are MP3 Albums.

    Thanks.

  • Hello Jackie Chan,

I would use woocommerce. You simply need to setup the products as downloadable items. The only issue that I’ve found with using woocommerce in this capacity is in cases where the server can’t handle the large load of the files and times out. So, just make sure that your server can handle the transfer of files that size.

Let me know if that helps.

Or better option, is it possible to split the download into parts?

You can split archived files up with 7 zip but your users will have to have 7 zip or other program capable of rejoining the parts. As for hosting limits, you’ll have to ask your host.

Like Bradford_Rourke said, WooCommerce. I’ve set this up for a band site with files over 400mb. I think the only problem I had was getting around the upload file size limit in PHP&WordPress.

If I remember correctly I took an easy shortcut around this and just uploaded the files into the products content directory via FTP and added the link to the downloadable file on the WooCommerce product page.

I have used WooCommerce, i uploaded my zip file to https://xxxx.com/public_html/wp-content/uploads/woocommerce_uploads/xxxx.zip

The product is on my site, however once you have checked out and you click “Download File” i get this message

    “Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /wp-content/uploads/woocommerce_uploads/xxxxxx.zip on this server.

Any ideas how i can fix this?

Solved, i had to ammend the product link as it had pasted wrong, i also changed WP-Content permissions from 777 to 755
