Changing CMS and host and installing in subfolder in one
-
Hello!
I have looked around and haven’t found an answer to this exact situation.
I am doing a major update to my website and have done a few things at once. I have changed hosts and the site has gone from the root to a subfolder of a primary domain on the new host. I have also changed from Joomla to WP. Right now the new site is up and running on primary.com/newsite on the new host as a development environment. The domain still points to the old host. What I am trying to do this week is point the domain to primary.com/newsite and have it display at newsite.com. I know about changing the htaccess and wp-header but the problem is that primary.com is also a wordpress site and I do not want to break that one.
This is what I am thinking: when I am ready, point domain to primary.com/newsite. Use the database replace tool (I cant seem to find it right now) and change all references from primary.com/newsite => newsite.com. Will this work? is there a better way?
TL;DR: changing both host & structure location of a site. What is the process when I am ready to make it live?
Thank You!
