Hi there. I’m very new and trying to make adjustments to my theme, “syntax”. My changes are simple- adding a custom menu, and simple layout adjustments/ thumnail placement etc.
I was trying to copy code from the css menu maker to my header php and made a mistake to which I received a parse error. I can’t find the line it is referring to, and I don’t know how to fix it. I would even reload my theme and start over, because there aren’t many changes and wouldn’t take much time, but the error is blocking me from making any changes. Anyone want to help out a cook that just wants this to be simple??

    Here’s the error message-
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘-‘, expecting ‘(‘ in /home/becrai/beccaraisor.com/wp-content/themes/syntax-wpcom/inc/custom-header.php on line 127

The website in question is beccaraisor.com

Where did you download this theme from?

Esmi- I downloaded the theme “syntax” from the wordpress theme library for self hosted sites.

My original issue was resolved, however, maybe you can help me with something else.
The error occurred when using the custom css menu plugin. All I am trying to do is create a custom horizontal menu- incredibly simple- no bells and whistles. Just a horizontal bar with about 5 tabs that link to my pages. I would like to delete the theme’s original menu- I do NOT like the ease out tab.
Is there an easy way to do this? I tried the menu css from the wordpress codex and couldn’t get it to center.

If you have any further problems with this theme, please post in https://www.ads-software.com/support/theme/syntax/

In the meantime, do not edit the theme itself. First create a child theme for your changes. Or install a custom CSS plugin.

Sure. Thank you for the suggestion. I am learning where and how to post my questions.
I created a child theme, and need to start using it. A million thanks..
