Media Library Wish List and Suggestion Box

    Hi,

    This is for the suggestion box and wish list.
    The WP media library is basically impossible to organize and search. While there are some plugins out there, they are either way too admin heavy (like Media Library Assistant MLA) or not well-designed and supported. At least, I haven’t found one yet that looks solidly built and supported.
    So… ??

    How about a JP module for organizing the media library. It doesn’t need to be too “heavy” for 95% of us users.
    Some ideas:

    – Quick edit option. One option that I would like is the ability to select multiple media/images and re-title them to a “master title/tag” for later searching.
    – Ability to add tags/categories or some other way to group, sort, filter and search for media. Quick edit without having to separately open every media file
    – Maybe the ability to create special “attached” labels. For example, I want to see all the icons that I’ve used. I can create an “icon” label next to the All > Images > Audio > at the top of the screen. Or, maybe I want to find all the header images that I’ve used so I don’t repeat them. So, I want to search a tag/attached “header images” for example
    – Ability to have a better filter option. I guess this is the same as all of the above.

    I’m pretty sure most WP users would vote that the media library is the worst-designed feature of WP – and vote that it’s one of the most important and essential features.

    Again, I think 95% of users just need a few tag, sort, quick edit and filter options. Those who need “everything” can use the MLA or other plugin.
    I am open to trying another plugin if someone has one they like. But, I hope you can put this on the Jetpack Fast Track Wish List ??

    Hi!

    The Omnisearch module will let you search your media library. Otherwise, this suggestion feels more like they should be Core improvements rather than in Jetpack. I suggest looking here for starters:

    And in particular, as you can see here, there is the beginning of a proposal for the Media Library. I suggest getting involved in the discussions there, but thanks for your suggestions!

    Hi,

    Thanks. I didn’t know where to post this suggestion, so I figured Jetpack was the best place since you guys are most “in tune” with WP’s inner workings. I know it’s not a JP issue to create a functional WP media library. It’s WP’s responsibility.

    Mostly, I just want to put my icons / header images / galleries into categories or tags or folders so I find them, not repeat them etc…
