Adding an index and alphabetical profiles

Hi

We are trying to customize our website so that we have a list of artists and their profiles on the website in alphabetical order with an index listing to find the artists by first letter of last name.

Is there a WordPress plugin that will enable us to do this or can you advise what we would need to instruct our web developer to do to create this list?
