Settings: URL Modifications Unselectable

Sadly, I have been trying to fix an issue with my PolyLang plugin the entire evening: to no avail. Since I haven’t been able to find posts describing a similar issue I decided to make a new topic.
I only installed WordPress tonight, immediately followed by PolyLang (my first – and only – plugin). I tried to setup my PolyLang to use set the language in pretty permalinks, however, I can’t select that option in my settings – it is greyed out.
The only URL modification option this IS select-able is the “The language is set from content” option. All the options below that first one (including the permalink one I’m aiming for) is greyed out and unselectable no matter what I try.
Any ideas what might be causing this issue? Thanks in advance for helping!
