Do you have the permanent redirect disabled in the DM settings?

    Hi Ron,

It’s enabled. Attached a screenshot of my settings: https://www.evernote.com/l/AGz3xoCKZ61I_YWDseIuKx6_vV0E91U6XZk

I’m checking that, after deleting the “disallow” directives in robots.txt, more and more subsites are being indexed in google as subfolders.

    Thanks.

Is it content or images that are being indexed?

    Thread Starter despachotres

    (@despachotres)

Both. I’ve always looked for content, but also tons of images are being indexed too.

    > How is Google “finding” the unmapped versions?

If you type the unmapped URL in your address bar does it redirect to the mapped domain?

    Thread Starter despachotres

    (@despachotres)

Yes, of course. Typing https://www.mainsite.com/subsite redirects to https://www.subsite.com in all cases.

The plugin is working fine, but with this major issue regarding indexing.

    Thanks.

Any idea how google is “finding” and indexing the mapped subsites if there are no links to the unmapped versions? It’s a huge SEO issue.

    Thanks.

    > Yes, of course. Typing https://www.mainsite.com/subsite redirects to https://www.subsite.com in all cases.

Then the issue is that googlebot is not processing the redirect. You’ll have to research to see what types of things causes that to happen then check your install for any of those causes.

    Hi,

But how can google find the unmapped version (www.mainsite.com/subsite) when there’s no link at all to that URLs?

Only mapped versions of the URLs are being used. So how Google is finding the unmapped versions?

And you say “types of things causes…”. Any clue? What can be causing this? You are the plugin’s author, so you should now where to look for…

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Again, how can google find the unmapped version (www.mainsite.com/subsite) when there’s no link at all to that URLs?

Any clues? Where to look for?

    Thanks.

    Hi again,

Do you see any SEO issue if the subsites only load from the “mapped” version?

    That is:

    https://www.subsite.com will load
https://www.mainsite.com/subsite/ won’t redirect to the mapped version (server config)

This is done via server configuration, to avoid google crawling the unmapped version.

Any SEO issue? Given that in the subsites only mapped URLs are used…

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I believe I’m having the same issue (or possibly similar).

I’m trying to figure out performance issues. So, I was running my site through WebPageTest:

    https://www.webpagetest.org

When I do this, I see that most of my images are being retrieved using “<root>/subdir/…” instead of “<mapped>/…”. Perhaps that’s how Google is seeing all of these URLs. When I type some of them into my URL bar, they don’t “convert” to my mapped domain. I’m not sure if I’m using understandable terms. But, for my example here is what I mean for the terms I just used:

<root> is my top domain that has the subdirectories sites under it.
<mapped> is my purchased “branded” domain that I want all of my users and Google to see my site as.

Anyway, when I view source on my web pages, I see MANY of my images using “<root>/subdir”. Also, CSS files, and Javascript seems to use it. I see where some of the Javascript seems to come from a plugin. Should the plugin be able to see the subdirectory? I was thinking it shouldn’t. But, I don’t understand the internals here.

When I edit a “mapped” Site from my Network Admin page, I see my “<root>/subdir” path in several places. Should any of those be changed to be “<mapped>”? Here are some attributes I see the “<root>/subdir” path under a Site that is mapped:

On the Site Info tab: Site Address (URL)
On the Site Setting tab: Siteurl
On the Site Setting tab: Home
On the Site Setting tab: All Theme Scripts Src (a long string with “<root/subdir” listed several times)
On the Site Setting tab: Ossdl Off Cdn Url

Would it help to change any of those to be “<mapped>” instead of “<root/subdir”?

Is there a way to make it so that plugins and themes when running on a mapped site only see “<mapped>”?

    Regards,
    Jagger

Googlebot ignoring a redirect is not an issue with the plugin. 301/302 redirects are a standard way of telling a client to go to the redirect URL for the current request.

    (@despachotres)

    Hi,

I’ve tested the redirect to check what kind of code it returns… a 301 redirect. Screenshot: https://www.evernote.com/l/AGz-v4ynl39MMJ3HFxstOu52yGg-W2yubw8
