• Hi there

I’ve read on several occasions that activating Photon in the Jetpack Dashboard is good for site speed, but hurts SEO as images aren’t indexed with Google. Although, there seem to be various opinions out there.

I’ve been into my webmaster tools and found that my images aren’t being indexed, and I believe Photon may be the issue. However, I need the auto-resizing capabilities of Photon, so I’m reluctant to disable it.

I’ve also read that sometimes there’s a conflict with other plugins that prevents Google from indexing the original source of the image, and instead indexes the image at WordPress.

Is anyone able to give a definitive answer on Photon and the indexing of images? And if it’s the issue, is there a way for me to resolve this conflict?

Hi! Where exactly in Webmaster tools did you see that your images weren’t being indexed? If you do a “site:mysite.com” search in Google Images, do your images show up there? We are not aware of any issues with Photon and Google Images issues, but I’d be glad to dig into it if you can provide more info.

    Hi there

    Thanks for responding.

Under the sitemap section of my Webmaster Tools, it shows that images aren’t being indexed, while the vast majority of posts are.

When I do the site:mysite search, a number of the images do actually appear, but in recent months since activating Photon, the traffic generated to our site from Google Images searches has dropped significantly.

    Thoughts?
