New to WordPress. Tried to find answers on forums and web to no avail. Apologies for the following newbie questions…
Installed parent theme, have not activated it yet. Child theme came with my purchase of parent theme; I’m assuming that I should install and activate the child theme. I don’t plan on conducting any big changes to the theme at the moment, but want to protect myself for when new theme updates occur and want to leave my options open for if/when I do make some code changes and big theme changes. So, do I install and activate the child theme and conduct my work through the child theme, even though it will be really simple things like adding content, choosing colours and format within the confines of the theme? Or have I misunderstood how this works? Any advice would be much appreciated!

  • Have both uploaded but only activate the child theme. Then do all your changes to the child theme. Thats what its for.

So, provided I’ve uploaded and activated the child theme correctly, it should look and act like the parent theme and I can start creating my site, adding content, choosing my layout, etc?
