How to set up wp-mail-smtp

  • Hello all. Total newbie here. Been working with WordPress about two weeks and love it. But can’t seem to get it to send emails. I have installed wp-mail-smtp plugin and am trying to configure it to use SMTP but have no idea about some of the settings.
    FROM EMAIL: got it, that’s fairly obvious.
    FROM NAME: ditto
    Send Mail via SMTP is selected
    Set the Return path to match the From Email is checked

    Here’s where I get lost:

    SMTP Host: Default is localhost and port 25. Is this standard? What should it be? (BTW, the site is hosted on Microsoft Azure, if that matters.)
    When testing, I get this line:
    string(43) “SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.”

    What about Encryption and Authentication?
