No warning against deactivating, but doing so prevents backend. access.
-
I had the Better WP Security plugin installed on my site – https://www.learningviavideo.com
The usual WP message to update plugins appeared in my WP Dashboard. One update was for the Better WP Security plugin. When I updated, there were numerous warnings that my theme didn’t have certain requirements for the iThemes Security to work properly.
So I decided to deactivate Better WP Security or iThemes Security – or whatever… to uninstall it and use a different security plugin.
A “deactivate” button was available and there was no warning against deactivating, but deactivating now prevents access to my backend. I can’t access the Dashboard of the website at all. The web pages show up, but not the WordPress Dashboard. How do I get back access to the back end? I’ve got deadlines to meet. I can’t have this.
Now I’m reading in the IThemes Security Forum that all this is happening as a ploy to get me to buy the IThemes Security Pro version,

“…to make the long story short “come buy our support”. The least I can say is that it is unprofessional and a low level tactic. It is most probable that future releases will include more subtle so called bugs. Always keep somewhere a trusted working copy.”
