Notification email addresses jump to one line, give error

In 4.0.16, I can’t seem to properly set notification email addresses. I want to have notifications sent out to both our admins, so I input the two addresses for two separate lines. However, after I save settings, the e-mail addresses in the fields appear as if they were on one line, and I get the error line at the top:
“The following notification email address(es) do not appear to be valid”Same for Backup Delivery E-mail addresses.
I tried separating the e-mail addresses with commas and semicolons, which didn’t solve the problem (of course I see that the prompt asks for one address per line).
Even stranger, the only notification I got from the plugin was a file change notification that was sent out for the second address but not for the first address.
I wonder what I could do to resolve this.
