I’ve been having trouble trying to create a .htaccess file on my yahoo hosted wordpress blog. When i copied the file across with Filezilla it disappeared.

However, after i’d done this the options/permalinks would allow me to change the settings without giving a ‘now update htaccess’ message.

However, now the links on my site try to go to /postname and can’t find the page.

Where is my content actually stored?
How can i get this working again – changing my permslinks setting back to default doesnt seem to work.

    the site is https://www.nicolai-uk.com

i’ve tried changing the permalinks so many times it now just seems completely fubar.

I was thinking if i could find the content to back it up i could do a complete uninstall/reinstall but i can’t work out what i’d need to back up to do that.

Less panic. It’s a blog, not Defcon. ??

For the moment, set Permalinks to default.
FTP to your site, delete .htaccess. What’s that you say, you don’t see it? Remember that files starting with “.” are hidden. Have you told your FTP client to show hidden files? If not, do so.

You should be aware that Yahoo! hosted WP blogs are a bit… odd. They involve what appear to be some Y! custom plugins. I could be off-base, but isn’t one of those Yahoo plugins related to permalinks? Is that plugin enabled?

Thanks for the quick response and the ‘less panic’ advice – it’s just that i am off on holiday for a few days and didn’t want the site broken while i’m away.

The yahoo permalinks plugin is enabled and i’ve managed to get back to default now. However, i’d still really like to use better pagenames.

The problem i’m having is that even with view hidden files checked in filezilla i can’t see .htaccess. When i tried creating a .txt file and renaming it neither filezilla or yahoo would let me rename it to .htaccess.

Hmm… I wish I knew what that Yahoo Permalink plugin actually does. Maybe it negates the need for a .htaccess?

I’m sorry, wish I could help more. Might try a search here on “yahoo permalinks” and see if anything pops up.

thanks. it’s working so i can defer for a while – i’ve mailed yahoo support to ask them.

It appears from previous posts that permalinks will only work on Yahoo in the format site/index.php/permalinkstructure

The yahoo plugin must do the work of the .htaccess file but it would be nice if they mentioned the need for /index.php/ in the path.
