    Running: WP 3.9
Plugins: Comic Easel, S2Member, Akismet, ComicPress to Comic Easel, Jetpack

Problem: I can log in. I can go to the dashboard after logging in. When I have the system set so that people have to be logged in to comment, I get told to log back in again when trying to comment. I also lose the log in status when going through pages. It’s that old problem again from way back.

What I have done to try to solve:

Spent literally weeks looking for solutions in forums.
Tried to clear cache, only to learn I don’t have a cache folder.
Be confused why WordPress would keep cookies and be unable to tell WordPress to clear cookies.
Windows 7 has been reinstalled fresh on my system twice through this, so it can’t be cookies on my computer.
Turn off *all* plugins except comic easel. Nothing changed.
Take down the meta widget and put in a text widget just so I can get to the dashboard

I really need help. Please. If I’m having trouble on all of my browsers like this, so are readers who would otherwise log in I’m sure.

    The website is https://www.theheavenlybride.com

It’s a comic with occasional adult content. Not porn.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    Thanks for responding so quickly!

“- deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).” Yes. Just like I said before. Deactivating all of them except comic easel didn’t work. My thought: If comic easel is the issue, I might as well find a different platform altogether that’s not WP.

I’ll try two of the others. Reuploading files and folders will only break things forever says experience and setting this comic up was too much of a hassle to risk it.

Off to try these and holding my breath. LOL

    In order.

    1. Deactivating all plugins, including Comic Easel, got me nowhere just now.
    2. I have no idea what the default theme is. I have ComicPress and Oriental. Switching out didn’t work. Installing and switching to Twenty Fourteen didn’t work.
    3. Using PhpMyAdmin is way above my ability to do so. I barely understood the page that was talking about it. In fact, I didn’t understand most of it. Just enough to let me know there was no way I was going to be able to do it.
    4. Renaming the plugins folder to plugins.hold as per instructions got me this message in my dashboard: This theme recommends the following plugin: Search Everything. The following required plugin is currently inactive: Comic Easel.

Which makes me wonder why Comic Easel is still able to be found.

    5. Renaming the folder back to normal with plugins all deactivated: the problem still persists.

I have no idea what the default theme is

Currently. it is the 2014 theme.

Using PhpMyAdmin is way above my ability to do so.

Did you try the FTP method? If you cannot manage this yourself, you may want to consider hiring someone

    Thread Starter rainbowprophet

    (@rainbowprophet)

2014… that would be the twenty fourteen theme right?

By ftp method, you are talking about going in by ftp and renaming the folder right? Because I did that, which would be why I mentioned it already.

As for hiring someone, if I had the money I’d pay my overdue car payment. =^-^=

that would be the twenty fourteen theme right?

    Correct.

I did that, which would be why I mentioned it already

Sometimes the Phpmyadmin method is needed to kill off especially bad plugins. What about the 4th step I suggested?

I’m not doing that one. I tried that before on another website and ended up having to rebuild from scratch. And doing a mirror restore didn’t work. WP is just… way too fragile. And I can’t afford to lose what’s been built here. We’re talking hundreds of pages I would have to put in one by one. Again.

So.. I guess thanks. Nothing is going to work.

    I’m not doing that one.

Your site’s content is all stored in your database – with the exception of uploaded media files stored in the wp-content folder. So as long as you avoid that folder, you will be fine. All you are doing is uploading a fresh set of WordPress core files.

This system was installed by Godaddy. I don’t have these files and wouldn’t know what I was doing or if I were getting the correct files because I don’t know what they do or don’t install. They tend to disable and take away things from programs, for example. It’s too much of a gamble.

Thank you but I’m going to mark this as resolved, even though it’s far from it, and give up.

My advice to you would be to hire someone from the jobs section. Don’t lose all that work. Won’t cost much for someone to figure out the problem and fix it. Maybe $50 at most?

    Don’t give up.

Thanks for the encouragement. It’s really nice and I greatly appreciate it! But the truth is I don’t have $50. I don’t have $10. The last time I priced “help” they wanted three times that, so…. I just had to argue not to get my water turned off. Times are hard right now, as they are for a lot of people. Maybe in the future I can invest in hiring someone, but for now? No one likes the comic anyway. My only regret is going to WP. I didn’t wanna. LOL!
