How do I get WordPress Site to root of server?

You need to move all contents in the “wordpress” directory into the root directory.

And most likely you’ll have to change the Site URL: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_The_Site_URL.

In my experience, a better way to deal with this, with some added benefits, like no clutter in the root, is to use the “Using a pre-existing subdirectory install” section of this:

Thanks for the suggestions. The references you directed me to should have solved my problem. However WordPress does not allow me to edit the SiteURL field in the Settings-General section. Any idea why I’m being blocked? I sign in as wordpress administrator.

Are you using the default theme or did you install a custom theme?

What is the error/block message say/read?

It’s probably grayed out.

Perhaps the action is what the computer thinks as “pointless” and is denying it?

SiteURL is greyed out in the Admin panel Settings if you specify it in wp-config.php

I edited the SiteURL in the wp-config.php file and achieved redirection to the root directory of the web server. Unfortunately, although I was able to access the site, the site formatting was lost. I then deleted the “define(‘WP_SITEURL’,’…); line from the wp-config.php file. After doing this I was unable to connect to the wordpress application on the server.
I’m making some progress and hope to solve this soon. I appreciate all of your comments and support.

Might have been a bug and you might have to restart, from what you said happened above

The Site URL in the database is wrong. You were able to temporarily override it with the define statement in wp-config.php, but that leaves it greyed out in the Admin panels’ Settings.
