Failed to Write File to Disk Error while Uploading Images in WordPress

I am unable to upload media or update WordPress and I am not sure the reason. I have 3 separate websites using the same version of wordpress, two of which are on Dreamhost and uploading is not an option. I last inserted media on 4-21-2014, and found last night that it no longer works. I inserted a file into the FTP, hoping it would show in my account, but with no luck. Depending the file size and whether I use the Multi-file or Browser upload I receive different error messages Including Http Error, Failed to Write File to Disk, Error saving media attachment, and an Internal Service Error. I have reset the permission as reference in other threads, but with no luck. Any clue as to what could cause the error? Thanks for the help
