Cannot determine exchange rates: FIXED
-
Update to 3.04
It was that some exchange rate service did not provide average for certain less popular currencies.Gleb

Seems that still not fixed. I got that message all the time. In WP Admin woocommerce – Checkout – Bitcoin says: Bitcoin payment gateway is operational, but down at Exchange rate calculation type says: WARNING: Cannot determine exchange rates (for ‘EUR’)! Make sure your PHP settings are configured properly and your server can (is allowed to) connect to external WEB services via PHP.
What PHP settings is talking about ?
I saw a previous post regarding the same issue that was closed but no explanation how to fix this. Now you said is fixed. EUR is not like less popular currency.– If you set it to USD, will it work?
– Are you running it in a real, connected hosting setup, or on your local machine?
– Which version of WordPress, Woo and BitcoinWay plugin are you using?– With USD the same warning, I tried also to put only BTC but then at checkout its says: ERROR: cannot generate bitcoin address for the order: ‘Blockchain.info API failure:’. I use a Blockchain btc address.
– I’m running it on real, self hosted, all other payment methods works fine, tested also with Paypal and is OK.
– WP 3.9.1, Woo 2.1.9, BitcoinWay 3.04In “Bitcoin service provider”, do you have “blockchain.info” selected?
If yes – that may be a problem. I never received replies from these guys when their API’s stopped working as described and sincerely considering removing them from the available option.
So is about the blockchain api error. I should use Electrum instead ?
I change it to Electrum but is the same warning. The Bitcoin payment gateway is operational but even if I will change the rate calculation type in real time, most profitable or average is the same warning and in checkout now it says:
ERROR: Cannot determine Bitcoin exchange rate. Possible issues: store server does not allow outgoing connections, exchange rate servers are blocking incoming connections or down. You may avoid that by setting store currency directly to Bitcoin(BTC)
The only thing I don’t activate it yet (I’m in testing) is the SSL connection but don’t think is because of that – the paypal works fine.Yes, please get Electrum wallet, create new wallet, get MPK (see readme) and use it.
I really should remove blockchain.info as a payment provider method (although it is exceptionally good service as an online wallet as well as data info API provider).
Using Electrum wallet option eliminates any possibility of your funds being stolen by breaking into your online store site.
That’s the main advantage of this plugin – it’s the most secure way to receive payments without risk of losing bitcoins due to any hacking or break-ins.So ideally I want to eliminate any other options that could reduce this safety.
Hi,
I saw you published a new ver. 3.10. I updated today, following the instructions to deactivate the plugin first, select to clear all data when is deleted. The I installed the new version.
But the data was already there and also using Electrum wallet the plugin wasn’t active.
So I copied the code that you posted on Github https://github.com/gesman/bitcoin-payments-for-woocommerce/blob/master/bwwc-bitcoin-gateway.php and copied into bwwc-bitcoin-gateway.php. Tadaa! the plugin was activated but still at exchange calculation rate is showing the warning: “WARNING: Cannot determine exchange rates (for ‘EUR’)! Make sure your PHP settings are configured properly and your server can (is allowed to) connect to external WEB services via PHP”.
So still not fixed.Send me your wordpress admin credentials and I’ll check it out for you.
I still get
Bitcoin payment gateway is not operational: ERROR: Cannot determine exchange rates (for ‘EUR’)! Make sure your PHP settings are configured properly and your server can (is allowed to) connect to external WEB services via PHP.
Tried the test php code and it gave me an output of all strings of rates. Also i am on a good hosted service, but it ain’t work at all ??
What can i do?
I am getting this same error after upgrading to latest plugin. It was working fine before.
Bitcoin payment gateway is not operational: ERROR: Cannot determine exchange rates (for 'USD')! Make sure your PHP settings are configured properly and your server can (is allowed to) connect to external WEB services via PHP.
Also I have a question – after the user gets the Bitcoin QR Code and address, what if he leaves that screen by mistake. How does he get back to see the Bitcoin address for payment?
User also gets email confirmation for order with the same information.
At the end I removed the plugin. The lack of support and the suspicion that is tracking the blockchain account make me to move to BTCMerch plugin.
It was really strange that exactly after I activated this plugin I received a phishing email from blockchain regarding my account.
Also I was asked about the credentials for may page in order to fix the error.
Not recommended anymore this plugin. The phishing email you get has nothing to do with the plugin.
Just mark it as spam and be done with it.The blockchain account I created just for this plugin. Never used before. Is really strange why I received the phishing email just after I put the wallet address in this plugin config….
