Error Message: Connection lost.

  • I’m getting this a lot and on 4 different sites. 2 my own personal sites, and the other 2 on client sites who are having major issues.

    This is typically happening when we try and upload an image. The image upload progress bar goes all the way to the end and hangs. If i close the lightbox i notice the error. I can wait it out for 5min to get the save button back, which is not ideal.
    If i refresh, i notice the image is available to use.

    This mostly happened when i upgraded to 3.9. I tried downgrading on one of the sites to 3.8.3 but i’m still getting the issue.

    I tried optimizing the database with WP_ALLOW_REPAIR but i’m still getting the same thing.

    Can you set the WP_DEBUG to true in the wp-config.php and post the error it spills out.

    When i try an upload an image to a post, i get

    Error facepalm-cap…n-picard.jpg
    An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.

    nothing more than that. I get that now on 2 sites on WP 3.8.3 (downgraded) and 3.9

    Can you disable all the plugins and try again. I am suspecting that a plugin is causing this issue.

    If it works like that then enable the plugins one by one to narrow on the plugin that is causing this issue.

    I disabled all plugins on one of the sites and it seems the issue was wp-smushit by wpmudev.
    I will continue investigating the other sites. It’s a lot harder to out those sites in maintenance mode. They are high traffic sites
