I want to have it so that i have 1 wordpress installed. I am the admin.

Then any person who comes to the blog. can create an account, this gives them access to the admin area But only to post a video, they would have their own category

I dont want them to mess around with anything else in the admin area, the basically would be restricted to only being able to post to their category, and edit and delete their post that is it..

can this be done? and if so how do i set it up please

hi michael, thank you.. did the above make sense?

Like, can i also prevent them from touching areas in the admin?

You should create users at different levels (roles) in your blog, and log in with their info to see what is available for them.

yeah thats the part im confused on..

ok i found the wp-register.php where they can register with the blog.. but i want it so that when they register they are automatically assigned a level which only allows them to log in and post, edit there post and delete there post nothing more than that.

Currently as it stands, when they go to register

It asked them to choose a username and type in email

then it emails them their password

Now i signed up using a hotmail account and it sent them email to their JUNK folder.. so people who dont check that would think they never got their password…

    1. How can be sure they get the password sent?
    2. How can I Predefine what type of access registered users will get placed in before they sign up so its ready when they do sign up?

    1. You just said: the pw WAS sent. Teach your pals how to handle their emails ??

    2. I’m really surprised you didn’t look around in your own admin panel.
Options > Gnereal: New User Default Role…

From what I can see is, i have them in my OPTIONS under GENERAL setup as

NEW USER DEFAULT ROLE – Subscriber

What if you want some registered users to be authors, some to be contributors, and some to be admins

im gathering what im seeing here is a GLOBAL setup once its setup it applies to everyone who registers

I guess for what im trying to do i would set them as AUTHOR

does that automatically give them a LEVEL? or do i set that someonewhere

Whatever level is set in the Options > it applies automatically to ALL who register.
If you want different level for each – set it to the lowest AND upgrade the selected ones manually.
    What is so complicated?

moshu lol.. thanks man.. yeah i did check it out and posted minutes after your post

Ive figured it out pretty much now thanks.. i went and read the docs aswell in wordpress.

One thing though I am not clear on is when it say in the docs

” Anyone can register – Check this checkbox if you want anyone in cyberspace to be able to register an account on your blog.”

Well if i uncheck that.. that means NOT anyone can register.. But then if i uncheck it .. who can register? like what would be a scenario of when a person would uncheck that

If unchecked (most of my blogs are the case) – then the message is:
    Registration disabled.

ah great ok, so it basically means noone can sign up, and i would have to add them manually

thanks that pretty much covers all my question for this thread
