• Looks like a well thought out widget, but unfortunately for me it doesn’t do all it is supposed to do.

    It sends out notification mails, when I publish a new page or such. I can also use it to send a mail to all subscribers; so mail settings shouldn’t be a problem (I made sure I use the mail address of the site, which has the same domain as the site).

    If somebody enters a comment, I get notified and he or she gets added to the public subscriber list, the latter only if I have this option turned on in the jetpack-subscriptions-settings!?

    If later comments are added, previous commentators are notified via wordpress.com, which I was hoping to avoid by using subscribe2.

    Worse of all, when a visitor enters his or her valid email address in the widget to subscribe to new posts, she gets no confirmation mail and is not added to the public subscribers list.

    Is it me or subscribe2? Can this be resolved and how, or is there a better solution?

    Kind regards,

    Frank

    PS: This is for an NGO, which doesn’t allow me to spend money on the pro version because it has no source of income from this.

  • @frank,

    What message is displayed on the screen when you enter an email address in the form? Have you installed an email logger to see of the email is generated? Does the form direct the input to a page that doesn’t have the Subscribe2 form or Widget on it? If not then the code is not available to process the input (I suspect this is most likely the issue as there is no email or entry in the database based on what you say above).

    Thanks for the tip with the email logger.

    As it appears, no email is sent when someone subscribes.

    Hitting enter results in a redirect with no hint that a mail was sent. It redirects to the home page where by design the widget is omitted.

    From what you wrote I cannot guess how to proceed.

    Any idea?

    @frank,

    You need to redirect to a different page than your front page. If you are using the built in widget got o WordPress admin, then Appearance->Widgets. Find the Subscribe2 widget in your sidebar and open it up. Then, where it says “Post form content to page:” choose either “Use Referring Page” or the name of the WordPress Page you should have created as part of the installation instructions.
