STEMD,
I guess it should but I’m not entirely sure. Anyway it’s always good to identify other important phrases/keywords that are relevant to what you are doing.
From what’s said on your “about” page I can see STEM+D is mainly about modern design and technology and industry standards in design. That being said, most of the visitors that will ever come to the site will probably find it by searching for phrases related to forementioned design – which is absolutely good.
As long as you don’t run company that has a largely recognizable brand, depending only on “brand search” isn’t quite a good way to gain any traffic on site. What I would do in such a situation would be:
1. Put a little seo work for “brand” (stem+d) but not too much
2. Promote the brand (along with its domain) extensively on- and offline like setting-up e-mail, blog and forum signatures and printing some kind of “slogan” along with the brand name and its web address on leaflets or catalogues (if you ever print them) and business cards
3. Put a lot, lot of seo work for other phrases/keywords related to the main content of your site
As it comes to SEO this is how it would work:
People search for some “design-related” content -> they find your site -> they visit it -> they like it or they like a particular content -> some of them promote it (make sure there’s plenty of easy ways to promote the content via social networks) -> other people see it -> some of them like it -> … it goe’s on like that.
After all, sometime in a future people start to recognize the brand, start to like it, talk about it and that’s the moment when everything starts to work like a charm.
For sure, there’s a lot of factors you need to care for and a lot of things that may go wrong. That means a lot of knowledge to gain and a lot of work to be done but I do belive it’s the best way. And it is certainly worth it! ??
